Description

Thomas Hughes was born on October 20, 1822, in Uffington, Berkshire (now Oxfordshire), Great Britain. He was an English author, lawyer and judge. He is most famous for his novel Tom Brown's School Days, which represents a semi-autobiographical work set at Rugby School, which he attended. He had other interests, as a Member of Parliament, in the British co-operative movement, and in a settlement in Tennessee reflecting his values.

He died of heart failure on March 22, 1896, in Brighton, Great Britain

This book is a sequel of his Tom Brown’s School Days. It is a semi-autobiographical work, as the previous book. The character of Tom is based on Hughes’ brother, George. He is energetic, stubborn, but kind-hearted, and athletic guy who acts according to his feelings and the unwritten rules of the guys around him.

The story continues from where it left in the previous book. Now Tom is a student at Oxford who struggles to balance the temptations of the university life with his dignity.

In this book, we follow the adventures and the student life of Tom. He meets many people, makes a lot of friends and experiences a lot of interesting things, such as an affair with a barmaid, a plenty of crew regattas, a mob of angry farmers, and many other.
